ARLO Modular Surgery Unit for Revivicor

Feb 1, 2022

Many have heard the recent news about the first successful heart transplant between a human and a pig that happened in early January. Many don’t know that the heart was from a genetically modified pig in Blacksburg, Virginia created by Revivicor.

Revivicor specializes in regenerative medicine and creating human tissue, such as organs. Located at Virginia Tech’s Corporate Research Center (CRC), Hopkins | Lacy is proud to help support the company’s mission by sustaining a long standing relationship with CRC by providing new mechanical and plumbing work as well on-going mechanical and controls service on the campus.

Modular Surgery Unit

Hopkins | Lacy recently finished construction on the 2,240 square feet ARLO Modular Surgery Unit for Revivicore in Blacksburg, Virginia. This farm is where the livestock for their essential work is raised. Hopkins | Lacy installed three Captive Aire units, 2 boilers, and associated exhaust fans, piping, and duct to serve the modular facility, which was built in Iowa for the surgery unit.

The project faced many supply chain issues throughout construction. The units were delivered with the interior completely finished, challenging the team to design and complete all systems on the outside of the building.

“Your crew’s knowledge and quality is apparent and can be seen in the final product. The client is very happy with the building, and there will be opportunity for additional work in the future,” says Scott Baillargeon of Art’s Way Scientific, a building contractor specializing in agricultural and research laboratories.

The project was a perfect fit with Hopkins | Lacy’s extensive experience in medical and scientific labs, hospitals, medical gasses, and complicated control systems.
