G.J. Hopkins Installs Solar Array for Local Nonprofit

Oct 9, 2019

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys celebrated the completion of its rooftop solar array Monday, October 8, 2019, at its Salem location. The nonprofit is the first in our area to incorporate the use of solar technology.

RER Energy Group designed and provided materials for the array and contracted G.J. Hopkins’ Special Projects Division to install it. The project was the first large-scale solar install for G.J. Hopkins and took a team about four months to complete.

The solar array is expected to create about $400,000 in energy cost savings for Goodwill and keep 221 metric tons of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere.

“G.J. Hopkins is proud to work with nonprofit organizations, such as Goodwill, to assist them in maximizing their ability to provide services to our community,” said Ernie Caldwell, G.J. Hopkins President.

Adopting solar technology has allowed Goodwill to enhance its mission of helping individuals with disabilities or disadvantages get back to work and gain greater independence through training and employment programs.
